The Republican Party of Knox County stands for the following
principles:
- Recognition of each person’s
ability, dignity, freedom and responsibility is basic to good
government.
- Government exists to protect the freedom of each individual, not to restrict it.
- Equal rights, equal justice and equal opportunity belong to all,
regardless of race, creed, color, national origin or sex.
- The preservation of our nation and the security of our citizens
depend on every citizen’s
respect for the Constitution, the laws and the courts.
- Government must maintain sound money and responsible economy. The
rights of life and liberty are meaningless if citizens are deprived of their
property though excessive taxation, inflation and government waste.
“We should emphasize the things that unite us and make these the only 'litmus test' of what
constitutes a Republican: our belief in restraining government spending, pro-growth policies,
tax reduction, sound national defense and maximum individual liberty. As to the other issues that
draw on the deep springs of morality and emotion, let us decide that we can disagree among ourselves
as Republicans and tolerate the disagreement.”
