Steve Dyer announces his candidacy for District 47
Steve Dyer
Rockland, ME - February 18, 2008 - The Knox County Republicans are pleased to announce that Steve Dyer (Rockland) has decided to run for the District 47 seat currently held by Rep. Ed Mazurek (Rockland).  He is running as a clean election candidate. To help Steve raise the fifty $5.00 donations required under the Maine Clean Election Act, click here to contribute $5.00.

District 47 includes Rockland and part of Owls Head and was formerly held by Deb McNeil (Rockland).

Steve is a native son of Rockland and graduated from Rockland District High School in 1983.  While in high school, Steve was a member of the football team coached by Ed Mazurek and viewed him as his mentor and still has the utmost respect to Ed as a person.  However, Steve sees that the policies of the Democrat Party and, most recently, Ed, have caused harm to the state and jeopardizes its future, hence the reason behind his decision to run for the state legislature.

Following Steve's graduation from high school and a two year stint as a Rockland police officer, he became part of the state's largest export: its young people.  He moved to New Hampshire in 1989 and attended Southern New Hampshire University graduating magna cum laude in 1995 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Economics and Finance.  Following that, he was an intern in the White House Office of Administration and then completed his master's coursework in Management and Systems at New York University.  He has completed his master's degree in Pastoral Ministry and is currently working on his Doctor of Theology at Master's International School of Divinity.

Steve has owned and operated a number of small businesses over the past 15 years.  He currently holds licenses as a real estate agent, an insurance agent and a mortgage broker.  At present, he is working as a real estate agent with Jaret and Cohn Real Estate in Rockland and teaches Algebra at MidCoast Christian Academy in Rockland, a private high school he helped found in 2007.  He is the Youth Pastor at the Littlefield Memorial Baptist Church on Waldo Avenue in Rockland.

Steve has set three goals for when elected:

1. Reduce the overall taxes on Maine residents.

2. Bring down the cost of health insurance.

3. Attract new business to the state.

Steve and his wife, Amy, live on Lake Avenue with their two children: Ryan, age 6, and Meaghan, age 4.
